The Yellow “Pole”

By Jasmine L.
“The Yellow Pole” is a hangout after school for the students of our school.  Many of the kids would sit on the pole because it goes side-ways, making  it a side-ways pole [it’s really a swinging driveway barrier].  In the morning the yellow pole is open for cars to get in. Usually, there are teachers.  For example, Mr. L drives in through the yellow pole.  Usually you just  see kids on the Yellow Pole waiting for their parents to pick them up. And they would usually have a group of friends with them .

Then when they have their group of friends with them, half of the group sits on the pole and other half of the group pushes and pulls the pole back and forth like a roller coaster. At night they close the yellow pole so the students won’t  push the pole and also cars aren’t able to come in through.

My friends and I enjoy being there because it’s a place to hangout.  We also enjoy being there because when me and my friends are lazy or just plain tired and it’s a  place where we can sit down and relax. You should watch out when the Roller Coaster goes too fast you better hold on because you might just even fall backwards if you have bad luck. Believe me, I’ve had that happen before and it ain’t fun. Not many or ANY staffs at all watch the Yellow Pole but Jimmy the crosswalk stop sign guy kinda supervises the Yellow Pole, but I’m not sure if that’s his real job. So no one really cares if  students sit on the Yellow Pole or mess around with it.  If they did there would acually be staff around there guarding it or something.

What People Do During Lunch

By Marlo S

Lunchtime is usually between 3rd and 5th period, from 12:04 to 12:51 P.M. During lunch, everyone does something different. Once everyone is done using their lockers, they either go to the cafeteria or go outside for lunch. Several outdoor places people eat their lunch at are the blue tables, the “Stage”, the brick platform between the blacktop and the brick area, around the courtyard, around the sand pit, or the benches on the blacktop. Mostly everyone eats with their friends and sometimes share their food with each other.

During lunch, there are various things people do after they eat. Two of them is going to band or orchestra practice or help out in classes. Other than those, there are various clubs, such as the Science Club, Gardening Club, and World Friendship Club. Each club focuses on something different than the other clubs. All clubs are great ways for people to make new friends.

One sports-related activity is indoor soccer, which is held at the gym. The game is played exactly like soccer, between teams of different grades.  Each game is played on Tuesdays or Thursdays, for 15 minutes. To play indoor soccer, you make a team and team name and enter your team in the competition. Then when there is a game, you go to the gym during lunch and play soccer for 15 minutes.

This is what I do during lunch: After I leave my 3rd period class, I go straight the “Stage”, where my friends and me eat lunch everyday ever since 6th grade. Each lunchtime, I do something different. Some days, I automatically eat my lunch or talk to my friends. Other days, I wait for my friends and tell them something funny, give them some of my lunch, since they beg, or show them my comics, before I eat my lunch.

Around 12:30 P.M., my friends and I are done eating lunch. So we either talk about random stuff and walk around or goof off until 5th period. When we goof off, it’s completely random and funny. Everyone thinks it’s so funny for a day and then we forget about it. That’s basically what we do everyday between 12:30 and 12:51 P.M.

Peace of Mind on the 71

muni_neoplan8141_route71_marketandthird_feb132006_900x675By Romain P.

I have been sitting here for a long time.

A group of kids get on and start to tag and the bus driver smells the paint and kicks them off.

Later, I go to the bus driver and ask him how long has he’s been driving a bus. He says he started when he was 20 and hes 50 now. 30 years.  That’s most of his life spent on the bus.

I ask him if he liked his job and he says that if he were to stop he would not know to do anything other then that.

“I would be out of place. I mean its my life you and cool I get see all the people in San Francisco.”

Then I ask him about what he thinks about the taggers and he says, “I don’t know why they do that. I mean, it looks like crap and I am helping them and what they give me is just… I don’t know.”

The 71 bus is best place to hang out because when you get on you get to see everyone’s life and see their problems and successes and so on. When I ride on it and have no were to go I forget all of my problems and feel so relaxed in every way when I have problems at home that’s the one place I go to get away from everything.

The Fun Days With My Friend

By Jessica Z

When I go to my Eden’s house  we have  a lot of fun!

First, what we do is we go to her room and start playing around, e.g. we jump on her bed and sometimes we talk on the phone with our other friends. When we get bored we go to the computer and go to myspace or hear songs or watch videos on youtube.

Afterwards, we go to her living room which is huge! We sit down on her couch and watch movies with popcorn. After awhile we start taking pictures with her camera, but sometimes her sister wants take pictures with us too. Then we play with her pet guinea pig, Nacho  which I have to say is adorable and fun too!

After we get very bored we ask her parents if they could take us to the mall. When we arrive at The Hilltop mall we go directly to the stores that have our style e.g. Wetseal, Shoepalace, Footlocker, Forever 21 and many more. We usually carry like 5 bags together or many more. We go to all the floors until we see everything that we need. Sometimes we have to buy her parents something because I know how annoyed they are by following us everywhere.

Sometimes they’ll yell, “That’s enough, lets go to the house!” and we march, but before they say anything else, we ask really nicely if we can go eat somewhere.  Last time we went to eat was at Panda Express which was DELICIOUS! Eden and I ordered kungpow chicken with chowmein, but her parents were so tired that they just ordered water!

When the day is over my parents pick me up, but before I go I have to say goodbye and thank her parents for having me in their house

I will NEVER forget this memories with Eden!

Eggettes

001

By Ashley W

Eggettes is located at 39th and Noriega. It’s  basically a cafe similar to Quickly.  They sell many many drinks there. For example, they sell honeydew, strawberry, watermelon, taro, etc. freeze and or drinks there. They also sell mocha frappe, carmel frappe, coffee, etc.

Eggettes not only sells drinks, but also sell food. For example, they sell rice rolls, shark fin soup, fish balls, eggettes, and more. The shark fin soup is really good. It is bought by many costumers there. The fin soup is about three dollars. The drinks are also about three dollars. If you want tapioca in it, they add a couple cents more.

Eggettes is beter than Polly Ann’s (the ice cream shop next door, also very popular with kids at school) because Polly Ann’s is filled with junk food. For example, they sell chips, candy, soda, etc. there, but the food at Eggette’s is healthier. For example, the rice rolls that they sell have different types of dips that you can add to. You can add soy sauce, peanut butter, and this other red dip. The drinks at Eggettes aren’t fresh fruits but it is better than soft drinks. Eggettes also isn’t as crowded as Polly Ann’s. It is also much cleaner.

Stonestown

By Michelle T

Stonestown, also known as the Stonestown Galleria, is a place for people to shop, eat, or just hang out. It includes many stores for people to shop in.

The Stonestown Galleria used to be an outdoor mall. There was no roof and you could experience nature as you walked from store to store. My uncle told me about it and I was very astonished. I used to think that Stonestown was always the same, but I guess it wasn’t.

When I’m there, I like to shop. I personally LOVE shopping. Stonestown may be small, but it means I don’t take as long walking around the mall looking for things to buy. Sometimes I go to Stonestown to just walk around. It is actually really relaxing. But when I walk around, I end up buying things anyway. When I go eat at the food court, I usually have to go find seats first because the food court is usually very full.

I personally like to shop at Wetseal. Wetseal is a very funky and fashionable place. Many people go to there. Wetseal even has their own website. So if you dont feel like going out, you can just go online shopping. At the food court, I like to eat at Panda Express. Panda Express is a place of Asian foods. I love to eat the orange chicken. I also like to drink coffee at Starbucks.

There are many bus lines that will lead to Stonestown, but the ones that are ridden on the most are, the 29 and the 18. The last stop for the 18 is the Legion of Honor. So, when you are on the 18, watch for your stop or else you would have to wait a while for the bus to go back to where you wanted to get off. The 29 has many stops too. If you wanted to ride on the buses, remember to bring your money and or your Fass Pass or else you wouldn’t be able to get on the bus.

Stonestown is a GREAT place to be when you are bored, hungry, or eager to shop.
